OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR LEGACY.
Islay traditionally has embedded youth development within several community groups who have struggled to secure funding and long term premises to carry out their fun activities.
As costs have risen, groups have disappeared.
We have supported an existing group - Islay and Jura Youth Action - who have decided to join IDI on a formal basis ensuring that we continue to deliver youth activities and support the youngest members of our community.
This new Youth Initiative will join IDI's existing investment in young people with barriers to employment. There will be more youth clubs to attend, after school drop in and lots of exciting employability projects coming up.
We intend to use Kilarrow Community Hub to the max and our young people will be leading the way.
It goes without saying that youth services on Islay are important. During COVID19 Lockdown, many children struggled with loneliness, too much screen time and missing contact with friends.
Islay and Jura Youth Action with IDI delivered much needed respite, issues hundreds of craft and activity bags, did online youth work and has now opened up Kilarrow to youth clubs again, which are very much in demand.
